A Probationary Officer or called as PO is basically an Assistant Manager of Scale I in a bank. In Grade- I scale he is a junior manager and is called as a Scale I Officer. Once the selection criteria are fulfilled then the Probationary Officer which is newly appointed has to undergo an intensive training program at the Institute of Banking Management where they get proper training for the same. The probation period of a PO is for around 2 years. This actually varied from bank to bank.
Role of a Bank PO

Bank PO Syllabus & Exam Pattern
Recruitment is done in generally three steps process. The first two phase is written a test which are preliminary exams and mains exam respectively. The third step is the interview process. Candidates selected after the first two rounds get eligible for the interview round. After getting selected in these three rounds a merit list is generated based on the candidate’s performance. The one who makes it to the list are selected for the post of PO.
The syllabus of Bank PO exam is designed to assess the candidate’s aptitude as well as his general awareness. The preliminary paper is divided into three sections- Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and Verbal Ability. The mains paper contains five sections namely General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and Verbal Ability. This pattern again differs from bank to bank.
Bank PO Salary
The probationary officers are paid in good terms by the banks. The basic pay offered by SBI PO is Rs 23,700. In addition to this basic pay, the officers also have the facility of Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), CCA, special allowance etc. The total salary thus becomes Rs 40,239 per month.
For the POs of all the banks, salary is almost the same. You still might encounter a little variation from bank to bank. Still, there might be a little different as it may vary from bank to bank.
Bank PO Eligibility
• Before you fill the form for this post, it is mandatory to check the eligibility criteria. A candidate should be 21-30 years of age while applying for Bank PO exam. However, for the candidates belonging to SC and ST category are given an age relaxation of five years. Even the candidates belonging to OBC categories are given an age relaxation of 3 years. Like the SC and St Category, the ex-servicemen and the candidates who are from Jammu and Kashmir quota are also offered an age relaxation of 5 years.
